Individual Psychotherapy:
Dr. Smith offers both short and long-term psychotherapy for a range of issues in older teens and adults, including depression, anxiety, insomnia, relationship issues, perinatal concerns and bereavement. The duration of treatment is determined by the needs and goals of each client. Treatment begins with an assessment of the client’s background and concerns, followed by the development of a treatment plan, which is updated as treatment progresses. As symptoms stabilize and treatment goals are met, clients may choose to discontinue treatment, returning only as necessary, or continue with supportive therapy or ongoing treatment, if desired.
Parenting Consultation:
Dr. Smith offers consultations to parents on an as-needed basis. With independent-school experience and an understanding of the challenges parents may face, Dr. Smith helps to develop strategies for dealing with a variety of problems, while offering a confidential and safe space to explore the emotional challenges of parenting. She can also assist in determining if psychological services may be helpful to a child and will provide an appropriate referral, when indicated. Guardians and other caretakers may also benefit from parenting consultations.
